How to Get Back into Your Routine After It's Been Disrupted

Tyler Farm

I'm a routine person. When I started this blog, I was still finishing up my Bachelor's degree. I would go to work, and after getting home, I took care of the farm chores, ate, did whatever errands needed to be done, put up a post, and then did my school work. It was my daily routine and ensured that I mostly got everything done each day.

Since I graduated a couple of months back, this was the start of my forgetfulness of writing a post each day. One day without a post has turned into a few days before I realized that it had been several days since my last post. With the same routine for the last four years, it's been hard getting back to a new routine.

So, without further ado: Here is today's post.

Strategies for Re-establishing Your Routine and Consistency

Creating a Realistic Schedule

Let's face it, trying to wake up at 5 am to do yoga when you're a night owl is like trying to teach a goldfish algebra (ahem, applied algebra in my case). Craft a schedule that fits your flow.

Implementing Time Management Techniques

Time is a sneaky ninja that can either be your ally or your enemy. Learn to master it with techniques like the Pomodoro technique or the good old to-do list. As much as I love technology, to a point, I'm still an old-fashioned pen-and-paper type of person.

Setting Realistic Goals and Prioritizing Tasks

Setting Achievable Objectives

Dream big, but start small. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will your routine. Set goals that are challenging yet doable. Baby steps, my friend, baby steps.

Utilizing Prioritization Methods

When everything seems like a top priority, nothing is. Use methods like the Eisenhower matrix or simply ask yourself, "Is this a fire that needs putting out now?" to slay your to-do list dragon.

Building Resilience and Flexibility

Developing Adaptability in the Face of Change

Life is unpredictable, and disruptions are bound to happen. Developing adaptability is like having a superpower that allows you to roll with the punches and bounce back stronger. Embrace change, stay flexible, and remember that resilience is not about avoiding obstacles but about overcoming them with grace and determination.

Cultivating Resilience Through Mindfulness

Mindfulness is like a gentle anchor that keeps you grounded amidst the chaos of rebuilding your routine. By practicing mindfulness, you can cultivate resilience, enhance your emotional well-being, and navigate challenges with a clear and focused mind. Take a moment to breathe, be present, and trust in your ability to adapt and thrive.

Monitoring Progress and Adjusting as Needed

Tracking Daily Routines and Progress Towards Goals

Progress is like a roadmap that guides you toward your destination. Tracking your daily routines and progress toward your goals can help you stay motivated, focused, and accountable. Whether it's using a journal, a planner, or a tracking app, finding a system that works for you can keep you on track as you rebuild your routine.

Recognizing When Adjustments Are Necessary

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, things don't go according to plan. Recognizing when adjustments are necessary is a sign of wisdom, not weakness. Be flexible, be open to change, and be willing to course-correct as needed. Remember, it's okay to pivot, reassess, and tweak your routine along the way to ensure it aligns with your needs and priorities.

So, dear reader, as you embark on the journey of rebuilding your routine after a disruption, remember to embrace self-care, cultivate resilience, monitor your progress, and adjust as needed. With a little patience, perseverance, and a sprinkle of self-love, you'll be back on track in no time.
